Frederick Allen Jones (Courtesy Freethinker Archives)The Freethinkers Institute welcomes you to its home page. Freethinkers Anonymous was founded in 1953 by poet, author, and original Freethinker Frederick Jones. For a comprehensive biography of Jones, we recommend Reginald Starkie’s Hey You Kids! Get Away From That Donkey--The Life of a Freethinker. Originally founded for reasons which remain obscure, the new mission of Freethinkers Anonymous is to find and provide a little humor to those who need it most. The legend of Fred Jones is, itself, almost as obscure as the origins of his weekly distribution list. Born in 1870, he had a series of misadventures around the globe, always going somewhere and never really getting there. After settling down in Colombo, Sri Lanka (then Ceylon), he founded the Freethinkers Institute, then disappeared into the jungle, never to be heard from again.

Freethinkers Anonymous, as well as Freethinking in general, was revived in 1995, along with the weekly distribution list. Feel free to subscribe to the weekly list, or you can read the latest offerings online, as well as browsing through the Freethinker Archives.

Just What Is a Freethinker, Anyway?

The man most qualified to answer that question is lost in the dense jungle of Sri Lanka. However, it is rumored that Fred Jones is still alive, and that he continues his crusade against...er...that he’s still fighting to stamp out...um...well...any further questions, comments, complaints, should be directed to Frederick Jones himself.
